Established in 1765, the company initially focused on sake production before venturing into whisky. They began producing whisky in 1946 under the Yamazakura brand, making them one of Japan's oldest continuous whisky producers. In 2016, Sasanokawa Shuzo further expanded its whisky operations by establishing the dedicated Asaka Distillery.
