Nikka
About the brand
Nikka is one of Japan's two great whisky houses, founded by Masataka Taketsuru — the "father of Japanese whisky". The Nikka name covers a range of blends and malts built from two company distilleries: Yoichi on Hokkaido (bold, smoky) and Miyagikyo near Sendai (delicate, fruity), plus rare grain whisky from Coffey stills.
What goes into Nikka
- From The Barrel — the flagship Yoichi + Miyagikyo blend, bottled at cask strength and married after blending.
- Coffey Grain / Coffey Malt — from the Coffey column stills at Miyagikyo.
- Days, Super, Session, Black — softer everyday and cocktail blends.
- Taketsuru Pure Malt — a blended malt of the two single malts, a tribute to the founder.
The range is the Nikka brand; read about the company itself on the Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. profile.
