Big Peat
About the brand
Big Peat is a cult Islay blended malt created in 2009 by Douglas Laing & Co., a respected independent bottler (founded 1948). It is the flagship of the Remarkable Regional Malts range, in which Douglas Laing bottled the essence of each Scottish region.
There is not a drop of grain whisky inside — only Islay single malts from four legendary distilleries:
- Caol Ila — citrus freshness and clean smoke.
- Bowmore — maritime notes and oaky elegance.
- Ardbeg — a huge tarry, medicinal hit of peat.
- Port Ellen — rare stock from the closed (and recently revived) distillery, lending depth.
Big Peat is bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour (around 40 PPM). A cartoon bearded Islay fisherman stares out from the label. Each autumn brings a cask-strength Christmas Edition (usually 53–55%). Browse it in the Big Peat catalogue.
